www.22ships.hk 22 Ships has remained consistent since its opening in 2012, offering a menu of modern tapas that continue to delight the palate. Located on trendy Ship Street, the small restaurant features a U-shaped open bar with cramped high stool seating, which can sometimes create an uncomfortable dining experience, particularly on busy nights. Still, the high calibre of food on offer ensures that diners keep returning; dishes such as the scallop ceviche with yuzu and Chinese radish is presented beautifully and offer a good contrast of flavours and textures. The jamon, manchego and truffle toastie with quail eggs is the ultimate comfort food and yet has just the right balance of luxury. Similarly, the open bar layout allows diners to view the preparation of the beef tartare—an expertly seasoned dish that looks as good as it tastes. For drinks, comprehensive tasting notes are available for the reds and whites, along with a fair selection of Spanish sherries. While dishes tend to be on the smaller side, the innovative combination of flavours and creative presentation are what keeps diners coming back for more. Make sure to bring an appetite—though the sometimes lengthy waiting times for a coveted table will guarantee that you start the meal eager to tuck in.
