All-day dining restaurants in hotels don’t always have the best reputations, with pedestrian menus and rowdy buffets common, but Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s Grand Café is a pretty impressive all-rounder. If you’re into allyou-can-eat, make an appointment with its breakfast and dinner buffets; otherwise, the a la carte lunch and dinner menu covers an extensive variety of Western and Asian dishes all represented. The jewel in its crown is the Hainanese chicken, long renowned as one of the city’s best; with juicy tender de-boned meat, fragrant rice, a clear chicken broth and a punchy, flavourpacked trio of Asian condiments, it makes for a hugely satisfying meal. The wine list is on the shorter side, with only around ten varieties offered by glass, but staff are well-informed and happy to offer recommendations across the beverage menu—including a healthy number of beers, cocktails, fresh smoothies and teas. The restaurant is enormous, decorated in neutral tones with floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the room in natural light; with such a high volume of customers, however, be prepared for dishes to take longer than expected to arrive. Still, Grand Café is the definition of a safe bet.
