Having to navigate a busy mall to get to a restaurant is never a pleasant experience, but Kaika is a worthwhile surprise and you immediately feel worlds away from the crowds of Tsim Sha Tsui. Perched on the 19th floor of The One, the simple but sophisticated décor allows the restaurant’s stunning views to take centre stage—skip sitting at the sushi bar, which is in a separate, windowless dining area—and head to the main dining room for teppanyaki. The menu is vast but quality is not compromised. Kaika takes great pride in its premium ingredients, from Australian abalone to A5 Japanese wagyu beef, as is shown in the care taken when preparing, cooking and presenting them beautifully. The lobster (cooked on the teppan grill) is a highlight—staff bring the shellfish to the table live, before it’s cooked before your eyes and served in a superb sauce made using the lobster roe. If you can’t decide on what to order from the sizeable menu, a series of impressive sets ensure that you get to try a a variety of their star dishes. To drink, there is an impressive selection of sake to suit all price points.
