Given the celebrity cache often associated with Nobu, you’d think the Japanese (and Peruvian influenced) restaurant would feel and look a tad pretentious (with every right to be). But stepping into the Hong Kong iteration of the international eatery by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, the setting is surprisingly relaxed and accessible. Dim lights, simple decor and dark wooden touches create an intimate tone for the entire space, with panoramic views of the harbour—Nobu is in TST’s InterContinental Hong Kong—taking centre stage. The dishes, gorgeously presented, flow under the prompt service of the staff, swift to replace plates and fill glasses from start to finish. As you’d expect, both the produce and meal are high in quality, with offerings like the scallop tiradito and the ever-popular black cod saikyo yaki sure palate pleasers. The extensive menu leaves plenty of room for experimentation, and a comprehensive drink list caters well to both sake and wine drinkers.
