Walk past the custom-built woodburning pizza oven and you’ll immediately see how much has been done to recreate the authentic flavour of southern Italy—whether it’s the perfectly judged Calzone or the simple premise of the spaghetti Don Alfonso, with its trio of classic Italian ingredients (tomato, basil and pasta). Pan-fried scallops with Cardoncelli mushrooms are seared just right—the kitchen certainly has a dab hand when it comes to the treatment of seafood—while the angel hair with citrus zest and sautéed shrimps is a lesson in restraint. Given its location within the Grand Lisboa, the wine list is as impressive as they come—while it’s a beast to navigate, you can always defer to the sommelier or any of the capable staff who will be able to guide you to just the right bottle to continue that southern Italian summer feeling.
