TATLER SAYS

Refreshed in late summer of 2021, this grand café feels even more polished than before—with a more muted, earthy tone that suggests an understated luxury.

The Continental’s new chef Graham Long (a Gordon Ramsay alum) puts out a solid offering of refined brasserie dishes with contemporary flair, such as devilled Japanese mackerel with Yunnan potato salad, watercress and buttermilk, and classic beef tartare with confit egg yolk and celeriac, pear and sweet mustard. A fabulous place for any time of day, easily suited for business breakfasts as well as happy hour.

SIGNATURE DISHES

• Confit duck and foie gras terrine with sweet wine jelly

• Pecan pie crème caramel

TATLER TIP

Looking for alfresco options? The Continental has an expansive and airy terrace where patrons can dine or enjoy a generous happy hour surrounded by lush greenery.

TATLER SAYS

Shane Osborn’s past and present restaurants have received Michelin stars in London and Hong Kong; while the minimalist Cornerstone isn’t one of them, it does offer same pared-back approach to food (at a fraction of the price and formality), limiting surrounding distractions so the focus is on celebrating the ingredients.

The menu is brief but considered, and changes regularly depending on what’s in season; continuing on that sustainability theme, around half of the dishes on offer are vegetarian or vegetable-forward. A carefully curated selection of wines by the glass ensures your dining experience will be one worth talking about.

SIGNATURE DISHES

• Baby gem salad, kasundi, avocado, smoked sardine

• Wagyu steak sandwich

• Peanut mousse, chocolate sable, cherry gel

TATLER TIP

Ask for pairing guidance if the rather unusual and intriguing wine list leaves you scratching your head.
