TATLER SAYS

The 12-countersea­t Takumi mixes fine dining and fun, with a pleasant buzz thanks to upbeat pop tunes and friendly chef Daisuki Mori bantering with patrons. A single tasting menu changes according to season and supply, and reflects Mori's training in top French restaurant­s and his Japanese heritage. The food comes quickly: elegant capellini pasta in tomato sauce topped with caviar; steamed egg chawanmush­i blanketed in a silky velouté; and wagyu beef served two ways— shabu shabu and in a sandwich. Service is efficient, and the concise wine list favours Burgundy, Bordeaux, and sake.
