A meal at Howard’s Gourmet is like dining in the private rooms of an exclusive member’s club. Hidden in an office building, its four salons can be combined into one large event space, featuring high ceilings, crystal chandelier­s, views of the city and harbour, and dedicated waiters. Daily-changing tasting menus devised by chemist turned celebrity chef Howard Cai lean towards Cantonese in dishes such as braised crispy sea cucumber and double-boiled soup with sea whelk, while a dessert of pistachio mousse shows contempora­ry flair. An opulent bar is good for pre- or postprandi­al tipples.
