Given its history and place in the culinary canon, we can forgive the slightly dated decor—it has its charms, with its split level design, gurgling water feature and looming indoor trees. What’s important is the food, which represent textbook examples of confidently rendered Cantonese cuisine, from the soothing double-boiled soups that extract every last bit of flavour and nutrition from quality ingredients, to the expertly executed braised pomelo peel with shrimp roe—no easy dish to pull off. We commend how the restaurant offers most dishes in lighter half portions, too, so that smaller parties can enjoy a greater variety of dishes—easy given the variety on the menu.
