L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon always proves gastronomically fulfilling, but have the staff been told to maintain an expressionless composure? Despite being able to recommend dishes and pick appropriate wines, the emotionless service is somewhat at odds in this esteemed establishment. Luckily the same cannot be said for the food, which is a delight throughout, beginning with the outstanding bread basket, and culminating in the airy yet indulgent chocolate soufflé. Here, the flavours and presentation are always on point, whether it’s the picture-perfect and palate-pleasing langoustine ceviche served with a sea urchin waffle that’s beautifully buttery, or the freerange quail with foie gras that’s tender and moist and accompanied by the creamiest mash. Every element has been carefully considered; each flavour is complementary to its peers. The wine list is comprised of around 3,400 labels and includes some seriously impressive bottles, many of which will make rather a serious dent in the wallet.
