Máximo Bistrot in Mexico City, number 28 on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurant­s 2019 list, ticks all my perfect-date boxes (great music, knowledgea­ble waiters and amazing food). We were seated out in the terrace and ordered fried tortillas, Mexican ceviche with octopus and avocado, tiradito with crispy garlic chips. While waiting for our dishes to arrive, we ordered beers, sangrita and tequilas. As the night deepened, the live band started to play and we naturally grooved to the beat. My favourite bit: the wait staff were careful not to interrupt our little moments, and I really appreciate­d that as it allowed us to soak in the atmosphere and truly enjoy being in one another’s company. This has been my fondest date, to date (pun intended). It was a sum of many enjoyable moments that made it extremely memorable.
