This iconic estate, located in the cool, ocean-facing region of Hemel-enaarde, is celebrating its 40th vintage. Hamilton Russell planted the first vines in 1975 and set the benchmark for Burgundian style winemaking in South Africa. The 2020 chardonnay is fully organic, whole bunch pressed and cropped at very low yields, which translates to concentration and intensity of flavours – restrained and elegant on the nose with citrus and just-ripe stone fruit on the palate. Its key feature is its minerality and sleek, long finish.
