LAND FOR FOOD
New Zealand’s highly productive food-growing land is getting more protection from inappropriate subdivision and development. The Government recently released The National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land (NPS-HPL) – new rules to manage rich growing land to ensure it is available for cultivating vegetables, fruit and other primary production, especially in major food-production areas such as Canterbury, Auckland, Waikato, Hawke’s Bay and Horowhenua, in an effort to provide security for domestic food supply and the high-earning export sector.
