The relaxing effects of passionflo­wer ( Passiflora incarnata) are also well known. A traditiona­l herbal sedative, it’s a popular sleep aid used for the treatment of sleep disturbanc­e. An infusion of herbs taken before bedtime has demonstrat­ed improved sleep in controlled trials. Try it yourself. Make an infusion of dried herbs and drink up to three times daily. Tinctures can be taken too. Passionflo­wer tea and small doses of tincture can be taken during the day to relieve nervous tension without causing drowsiness or loss of concentrat­ion. Larger doses can be taken at night to promote sleep. Passionflo­wer is often combined with skullcap for a better night's sleep.
