The re­lax­ing ef­fects of passionflower ( Pas­si­flora in­car­nata) are also well known. A tra­di­tional herbal seda­tive, it’s a pop­u­lar sleep aid used for the treat­ment of sleep dis­tur­bance. An in­fu­sion of herbs taken be­fore bed­time has demon­strated im­proved sleep in con­trolled tri­als. Try it your­self. Make an in­fu­sion of dried herbs and drink up to three times daily. Tinc­tures can be taken too. Passionflower tea and small doses of tinc­ture can be taken dur­ing the day to re­lieve ner­vous ten­sion with­out caus­ing drowsi­ness or loss of con­cen­tra­tion. Larger doses can be taken at night to pro­mote sleep. Passionflower is of­ten com­bined with skull­cap for a bet­ter night's sleep.
