Run/walk for Toll Hou­se

A run/walk will be held on Sa­tur­day 1 De­cem­ber to rai­se funds for the re­sto­ra­ti­on of the his­to­ri­cal Toll Hou­se in the Mon­ta­gu Pass that was se­ver­e­ly da­ma­ged du­ring the re­cent fi­res. To en­ter for the 10km Ou Tol­huis Trai­ning Run, par­ti­ci­pants can pay a vo­lun­ta­ry do­na­ti­on of R10 per ki­lo­me­t­re or R100. It will start at the o­pen field op­po­si­te He­at­her Park S­par be­t­ween CJ Lan­gen­ho­ven, Mor­ning Glo­ry and Plan­ta­ti­on ro­ads.

Ma­ny lucky draw pri­zes and vou­chers will be up for grabs for par­ti­ci­pants who “pay the toll”, in­clu­ding me­al vou­chers, wi­ne, o­ver­nig­ht ac­com­mo­da­ti­on, sports ge­ar, croc­ke­ry, je­wel­le­ry vou­chers and mo­re.

Wal­kers will start at 06:00 and run­ners at 06:30.

S­pe­ci­al wi­ne for Toll Hou­se

He­rold Wi­nes laun­ched a s­pe­ci­al wi­ne with a lo­go of the Toll Hou­se at a fund rai­sing functi­on in the Ge­or­ge Mu­seum on F­ri­day. Car­rie and Tru­die Can­nin­ga pro­vi­ded mu­sic for the e­ve­ning and Da­leen En­gel­brecht sho­wed a vi­deo she cre­a­ted with his­to­ri­cal ma­te­ri­al, tel­ling the sto­ry of the Toll Hou­se. The e­ve­ning was al­so at­ten­ded by Ge­or­ge S­pea­ker Ger­hard P­re­to­ri­us and Cl­lr Li­sa S­troe­bel.

Ger­da S­tols, one of the big dri­vers be­hind the Toll Hou­se re­sto­ra­ti­on pro­ject, said she is up­be­at a­bout the fu­tu­re of the buil­ding and thank­ful for all the in­te­rest, ent­hu­si­asm and ef­forts from the com­mu­ni­ty to sa­ve it.
