World Aids Day is celebrated by the Health Centre South Coast from 2 to 6 December. As part of this project, a photographic competition was launched and there is still some time to submit your photos. World Aids Day (WAD) was first celebrated on 1 December 1988 and every year thereafter on this day. WAD is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and also to mourn those who have died of the disease. South Africa is the country with the largest number of HIV positive people in the world with Aids-related diseases. HIV is still the leading cause of death in South Africa according to research

conducted by the SA Medical Research Council. These numbers are a call for positive action and Oudtshoorn is not exonerated from this pandemic.
