Men sentenced to 15 years for housebreak­ing

Two Graaff-Reinet men have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonme­nt, following a housebreak­ing in Kroonvale on 18 May 2019.

According to Capt Bradley Rawlinson, spokespers­on of the Graaff-Reinet SAPS, Grant Mabee (20) and Ricardo Jaftha (30) were convicted in the Graaff-Reinet Regional Court on 7 September.

They were also declared unfit to possess firearms.

According to police records, the two men broke into the Kroonvale home, stabbed a 64-year-old victim in his upper left arm, and stole a television and other electronic items.

A case of housebreak­ing with the intent to rob and robbery was opened at Graaff

Reinet SAPS the next day.

After a thorough investigat­ion, the accused were arrested on 7 October 2019 and the stolen property was recovered.

“The Acting Detective Branch Commander, Capt Rudie Adams, commended Det W/O Gys van Gent for the thorough investigat­ion and for the conviction which he had secured,” said Rawlinson

A 64-year-old victim was stabbed by the robbers.
