Funeral held for Nyameka
A funeral service was held for the late Speaker of Inxuba Yethemba Municipality, Nyameka Goniwe, in Lingelihle, Cradock last week Wednesday.
Mourners gathered at the Church of Ascension in honour of Goniwe, who was the wife of the late Cradock Four Member, Matthew Goniwe.
According to a statement by Chris Hani Mayor, Wongama Gala, Nyameka died on 29 August after a short illness.
“Her passing marks one of the most painful moments in our district,” Gala said at the time. “We have lost a colleague, a friend, a great leader and a patriot whose life was dedicated to the betterment of others.”
Nyameka joined local government in 2011, as executive mayor of Inxuba Yethemba. In 2016, she became a councillor and served in the Municipal Public Accounts Committee. She was later elected as Member of the Mayoral Committee and elected as the Portfolio Committee for Health and Community Services. Her last post would be that of tne council speaker for Inxuba Yethemba.
