Fu­ne­ral held for Ny­a­me­ka

A fu­ne­ral ser­vi­ce was held for the la­te Spea­ker of Inxu­ba Yet­hem­ba Mu­ni­ci­pa­li­ty, Ny­a­me­ka Go­ni­we, in Lin­ge­lihle, Cra­dock last week Wed­nes­day.

Mour­ners gat­he­red at the C­hurch of Ascen­si­on in ho­nour of Go­ni­we, who was the wi­fe of the la­te Cra­dock Four Mem­ber, Mat­thew Go­ni­we.

Ac­cor­ding to a sta­te­ment by Chris Ha­ni Ma­yor, Won­ga­ma Ga­la, Ny­a­me­ka died on 29 Au­gust af­ter a short il­l­ness.

“Her pas­sing marks one of the most pain­ful mo­ments in our dis­trict,” Ga­la said at the ti­me. “We ha­ve lost a col­le­a­gue, a friend, a gre­at le­a­der and a pa­tri­ot w­ho­se li­fe was de­di­ca­ted to the bet­ter­ment of ot­hers.”

Ny­a­me­ka joi­ned lo­cal go­vern­ment in 2011, as exe­cu­ti­ve ma­yor of Inxu­ba Yet­hem­ba. In 2016, she be­ca­me a coun­cil­lor and ser­ved in the Mu­ni­ci­pal Pu­blic Ac­counts Com­mit­tee. She was la­ter e­lected as Mem­ber of the Ma­yo­ral Com­mit­tee and e­lected as the Port­fo­lio Com­mit­tee for He­alth and Com­mu­ni­ty Ser­vi­ces. Her last post would be that of tne coun­cil spea­ker for Inxu­ba Yet­hem­ba.
