Long service awards for care givers
GRAAFF-REINET - The Parsonage Street Home for the Aged in Graaff-Reinet, hosted an event to present long service awards and certificates of completion to caregivers at the establishment last Wednesday.
Davey Herold, chairperson of the board responsible for governing the Parsonage Street Home, presented the long service awards to honour the caregivers for their dedication, loyalty, personal commitment and outstanding service to the Parsonage Street Home and its tenants. Verna Mthembu, Jackson Jacobs, Niewen Afrika, Joylene Witbooi and Charmain Jaftha received 5-year service awards. Jan Bezuidenhout and Lorraine Mienies received 10-year service awards and Avaline Botha, Elsie Booysen, Ria Pretorius, Sandy Persensie, Sindiswa Oormeyer, Raylene Louw and Carol Fouche received 15-year service awards.
Herold highlighted that these 14 long service awards amount to a cumulative number of 150 years of service.
“Parsonage Street Home is not about the building, it is about the service, and I do not believe that one can find a more loyal team,”
Herold emphasised.
Sister Thandeka Majoka, a retired nurse residing in Graaff-Reinet, presented certificates to Alixcludia Botha, Raylene Louw, Jackolene Marlow, Maureen White,
Elsie Booysen, Joscene Jantjies, Sindiswa Oormeyer, Sandy Persensie, Yoline Hector, Felicity Maganda and Chubaida Willemse who completed the training course for caregivers. Herold expressed his gratitude towards Majoka for her assistance in training the Parsonage Street Home caregivers. Senior Sister Kathy du Toit explained that the training that has been completed by the 11 caregivers was part one of the training course. They are already preparing for part two. The training course covers certain aspects of caregiving that must be completed. But caregivers also have the opportunity of identifying other aspects that they would like to have included. “It was amazing to witness how eager the caregivers were to learn. They were so committed, none of them ever missed any of the sessions,” added Du Toit.
Having trained caregivers in addition to the ongoing renovations and interesting developments at the facility certainly qualifies Parsonage Street Home as care facility of exceptional standard. “We are very proud of what we are trying to achieve here,” said Herold.
