Back to back victories for Garden Route Badgers Women
The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers secured important wins in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Provincial 50 over and T20 Cup against the North West Dragon in Potchefstroom the past weekend.
In the 50-over contest, the Dragons posted a competitive 227/7 thanks to a century from the opening batter, Izel Cilliers (121*; 151 balls, 1x6, 12x4). Jané Winster bagged 2/32.
The run chase was led by a brilliant unbeaten century by Momentum Proteas batter, Tazmin Brits (134*; 115 balls, 2x6, 14x4).
She received valuable support from Bianca Figeland (34). The Badgers reached the target in the 39th over (228/3) for an impressive 7-wicket bonus point victory.
On Sunday, the Badgers wrapped up yet another weekend whitewash as Tazmin Brits added to her impressive season with an explosive fifty.
The Badgers overpowered the home side with another Brits-inspired performance as the opener recorded a 39-ball 62, including nine fours to help the team from Oudtshoorn put up 130/7 in their 20 overs.
With the ball, the Badgers’ bowling contingent did a great job to limit the scoring opportunities of the Dragons, as Jané Winster (1/16) and Marnazelle Rabie (1/27) stood out with ball in hand to earn their side a hard-fought 15-run win.
The Badgers will have a big game this weekend when they host log leaders, Six Gun Grill Western Province at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday and Sunday.
