Giving hope and warmth

-

The Mossel Bay ACVV's Winter Hope annual programme is in full swing and lasts until 30 June.

There are exciting, fun ways you can help those in need. It is said that it is more blessed to give, than to receive.

The slogan for the Winter Hoop/Hope programme is Gee hoop. Gee warmte / Give Hope. Give warmth.

One of the ways of giving, is preparing "bottles of ubuntu", according to the ACVV.

You can donate items for the bottles of ubuntu or you can make up the bottles yourself and hand them in to the ACVV at the corner of High and Wassung streets in central Mossel Bay. Call the ACVV on 044 691 1039.

This is a fun activity in which you can involve your children. If you are a teacher at a school, you could get your learners involved.

Bottles of ubuntu recipe (if you don't have a large bottle, use a strong plastic bag):

Half cup of rice

Half cup of soup mix or split peas Half cup of lentils

1 stock cube (unwrap and place in bottle) 1 sachet of soup powder Optional: add some pasta or samp

Place these cooking instructions in bottle:

Bring 2.5 litres water to the boil. Add content of bottle or bag. Boil for 35 to 40 minutes.

Keep stirring and then enjoy.

Another way of warming hearts this winter is by donating items to the ACVV for those in need. These can also be dropped off at the ACVV in the Mossel Bay town centre.

Items to donate include:

Warm clothing and shoes Thermal underwear and socks Beanies, gloves and scarves Non-perishable food

Covid-19 safety gear: masks, gloves Sanitising and cleaning products
