Gateway Radio wins top awards

-

Hessequa’s community radio station, Gateway Radio 89.6fm, has won two major media awards.

The Christian-based station has a community outreach programme which goes out to different areas where there is a need and distributes Bbles, masks, clothing and blankets, as well as offering prayer and ministry to those who would like to receive them.

“From last Christmas to the present, Gateway Radio has given away R100 000 in new Bibles to the community, as well as children’s Christian resources and colouring books, thanks to its partners,” said Sally Nicholls, the station manager.

Faith broadcasting network, in association with the Association of Christian Media (ACM), has recognised the work of Gateway Radio by giving the station the Faith That Counts award. It is awarded to an organisation running a highly successful project that reaches the community in a practical and meaningful way, other than the principle media efforts.

“In other words,” explained Nicholls, “something with a community focus, where communities are not only assisted, but where the Word of God is preached and the Kingdom principle of faith is instilled in their hearts. This award takes into consideration which media ministry is making the most effective change to the poor, needy and underprivileged on the street level, instead of only in the media.”

In addition, the ACM has given the radio station its annual offering, which honours a media portal for its outreach services.

Gateway Radio reaches not only the community of Hessequa and beyond, but also worldwide with its streaming service. The teachings and Christian music reach the world where other large ministries would be banned by certain countries. As a result the station receives messages of gratitude from around the world, most recently from China and signal checks have revealed that it has a large audience in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

“Hessequa can be proud to know that great things can happen for the Kingdom of God from a little studio in Heidelberg!”
