Mazavaroo

“Our Mauritian mazavaroo is a chilli paste that is eaten with almost everything in my family,” says Nikita Buxton, co-founder of Mémé’s Mazavaroo. The name is a tribute to Nikita’s late French-Mauritian gran (who they called Mémé, short for grandmère). “She would not eat a single thing without a side of chilli.” After making a jar at the beginning of lockdown, Nikita and fiancé Nick Walker started a small business, using her grandparents’ recipe. Try it on eggs, chicken wings and pizza, or in mayo with chips.
