BEN THE BAKER
For: sl-o-o-ow sourdough
When UK-born musician Ben van de Geyn (above right with Ancicallia Machiri) relocated from Amsterdam to Scarborough seven years ago, he decided to give baking a go. He bought equipment from a retired German baker, who then proceeded to take Ben under his wing and show him all the ins and outs of baking breads and pastries. The operation started out small, but locals became so receptive that Ben soon built a tiny bakery in his home to keep up with demand. He’s now famous for his white-flour sourdough loaf, made with Eureka flour. If you strike it lucky, you’ll occasionally find him at local markets selling his delicious pies, sausage rolls and turnovers. 17 Egret Street, Scarborough;
