OPEN-WATER SESSIONS

-

SESSION – ACCLIMATISATION

Get in your wetsuit – even that can be tricky! – and take your time easing into the water. Splash water over your face and down your back, just so the temperature doesn’t shock you.

Whenever you’re ready, swim some breaststroke with your head up. Stop and tread water whenever you need a break. If you feel happy with breaststroke, try freestyle, first with your head up and then with your face in the water. Swim at an easy pace. Again, stop as often as you like.

Remember to breathe out fully each time, rather than just breathing in. If you’re able to manage a few 100 or 200m sections, you’ve done just fine. Call it a day for now. Total will be around 500m. Have a warm drink and clothes ready for afterwards.
