12 Add final touches
Essential to any successful painting is its abstract design. A final flourish of colour adds to the spatial context and energises the painting.
The cat was primarily black and white, so I needed to enrich the background. I used Vermilion and with a touch of Lemon Yellow to sketch in the geraniums from my garden. These sudden flashes of colour draw the viewer’s eye across the composition, adding to the sense of the cat’s movement.
