Tip 1: Express yourself
We typically see nearby subjects with the greatest clarity, allowing us to discern individual variations of similar elements.
In this example, I wanted to draw a subject in detail to make it appear close, so I’ve picked out the individual textures of bracken, grass and fallen oak leaves at my feet.
The same attention could be applied to the nearby extremities of a foreshortened figure in a life class, picking out the hairs on the head of a reclining model, or the grain of wood on the nearby table of an interior scene.
