CUPRA: WHAT’S COMING WHEN
2018 SEAT LEON CUPRA R ST
As a last hurrah for the current-generation Leon, Seat confirmed that the R-spec estate will come to the UK before the end of this year. Mechanically it is nearly identical to the Volkswagen Golf R estate.
2019 CUPRA ATECA
The first ‘pure’ Cupra model reaches the UK early next year, creating the non-premium performance SUV segment in the process.
2019 CUPRA LEON
The next-gen Leon will also become a pure Cupra. We can expect it to stick with frontwheel drive and, most likely, a development of the current engine.
2020 CUPRA CUV
Another of the trend of coupé-suvs, this road-biased crossover looks set to be the first model that will be launched as a Cupra and could also debut a new plug-in hybrid powertrain.
2020 CUPRA EV
We can expect a Cupra version of Seat’s first pure-electric vehicle, which will sit on the VW Group’s MEB platform. Anticipate better acceleration than that of the mainstream version, although the overall range will probably be very similar.
TBC CUPRA IBIZA
Not formally in the plan yet but we’d be surprised if it didn’t turn up, not least because there was an opinion-gauging Cupra Ibiza concept at the Geneva show this year. The closely related Arona would be likely to share the same mechanical package as a Cupra model.
