FEDERICO LANDINI, MC20 VEHICLE DIRECTOR, MASERATI
Is the MC20’S platform shared with any other car? “It’s a completely new platform; there’s no one piece that’s coming from other vehicles. Even if at the beginning we wanted the same something to save time at a certain point, once you face that you have to develop a masterpiece with no compromise, you say ‘screw the components’.”
Was it hard to develop a sports car platform for both V6 and EV power? “Due to the fact that we had a clear idea of which future version we wanted to develop, we have integrated all the constraints into the first version. For example, for the convertible, we don’t need to add structural elements to maintain the torsional stiffness so won’t increase the weight. And for the electric version, we have already considered the layout of the future electric powertrain.”
What benchmarks did you use during development? “Benchmarks? Literally only to realise something at the same level as the MC12. But for sure there were some benchmarks from our competitors around the motor valley that represent the best of this type of vehicle.”
What does the MC20 say about Maserati? “There are a lot of elements on this vehicle that emphasise the heritage and history of Maserati, redesigned and elaborated for the future. You can see a lot of details that will be applied to the next generation of Maserati vehicles.”
