THE MASERATI MASTERPLAN: 13 NEW MODELS DUE BY 2024

Maserati’s ambitious revival plan has been fully detailed, with 13 new models – including battery-electric versions of each new variant – due by the end of 2024.

Core to this will be a new, Porsche Macan-rivalling SUV, dubbed the Grecale and sitting below the Levante. Based on the platform of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (alongside which it will be built in Cassino, Italy) but with Maserati engines and design, it will be joined by an electric version in 2022.

Following the MC20 will be an MC20 Spider convertibl­e and, by 2022, an electric variant of the supercar.

All of Maserati’s new EV variants will come under the umbrella sub-brand Folgore, meaning thunderbol­t in Italian. They will use three electric motors – one on the front axle and two on the rear – to achieve four-wheel drive and torque vectoring.

An 800V architectu­re for the powertrain will enable rapid-charging rates of up to 300kw, with Formula 1-style silicon carbide inverters.

This technology will be employed not just on the electric MC20 but on cheaper battery models too.

That’s not all in the Maserati plan, however. Also due to launch in 2021 is a new generation of Granturism­o and Grancabrio. Engineered in Modena and built in Turin, the coupé and convertibl­e GTS will be the first electric models launched, in 2022.

By 2023, we should also see the new Quattropor­te saloon, again offering both petrol and electric power.

Then should come the next-generation Levante, a large SUV, also with the same set-ups.

Maserati expects the Levante and Grecale SUVS to take 70% of its sales by 2025, with 75,000 sales annually the target.

The brand also plans to expand its customisat­ion options through a new Fuoriserie programme, with a new car tailoring shop built at its Modena headquarte­rs.

Fiat Chrysler Automobile­s CEO Mike Manley said: “For the past 18 months, we’ve been rebuilding one of the most loved motoring brands in the world, and no part of Maserati has been left untouched. Now we have a clear product plan with cutting-edge tech.”
