My vote for the best hidden motoring gem of 2021 is the current Mazda 3 Saloon e-skyactiv X Automatic. It’s beautiful inside and out, with a stateof-the-art petrol engine and gearbox and touchscreen-free infotainment. It’s a driver’s car yet so seldom seen in your pages. What’s not to appreciate?

It’s just such a shame that the 2.5-litre turbocharged four-wheeldrive version isn’t available in the UK.
