SALES CAN TOP ONE MILLION AGAIN, SAYS SMMT
New entrants would be needed for the UK to return to the 1.5 million new car output that it last achieved in 2018, according to SMMT boss Mike Hawes. This is “not beyond the realms of possibility but is not factored into the calculations”, he said, but “what really matters is getting the components supply and bolstering output of existing plants. If some of those plants can secure new models in the medium term, then it can get to, certainly, consistently above one million.”
