Volkswagen Group touchscreens can be rather hit and miss. The latest interfaces usually look slick but are often hard to fathom and occasionally flat-out refuse duty. Still, it might come as a disappointment to step into the Fabia and see the rather small and low-resolution 6.5in screen, surrounded by a chunky bezel. It shouldn’t, though, because thanks in part to the physical shortcut buttons and volume and menu selection knobs, it is supremely easy to use. It responds quickly, too.
Android Auto and Apple Carplay phone mirroring are standard, but wireless connectivity is a £55 option that really ought to be included as standard. You always get two USB-C ports, plus a 12V socket. A wireless charger is optional on higher trim levels, as are USB ports for the rear seats. Bigger screens of 8.0in or 9.2in with built-in navigation come as standard on Colour and SE L trims respectively, but that wouldn’t count as a reason to upgrade for us.
