WHAT FUTURE FOR THE V12?
BMW
The 601bhp V12-engined M760i remains on sale in the US, but not for much longer. The 6.6-litre unit will have its final outing in a 12-off Final V12 edition later this year.
Ferrari
Ferrari is prepared to fight for the future of the V12 that currently powers the 812. The upcoming Purosangue SUV, which shares the 812’s architecture, is tipped to get a V12 variant.
Lamborghini
Sant’agata bade farewell to non-electrified V12 propulsion with the Aventador Ultimae last year, but that car’s hybridised successor will also use an all-new 12-cylinder engine.
Mercedes-maybach
The standard S-class ditched its V12 in 2019, but the ultra-luxurious Maybach S680 uses a 603bhp, 663lb ft twinturbo 6.0-litre 12-cylinder behemoth of an engine.
Rolls-royce
Every Rolls-royce will be electric from 2030, giving the firm’s venerable 6.75-litre V12 a few years to live. Its EVS will aim for the same ‘waftability’.
