I’m a Seoul man

Congratulations to Kia for winning What Car? Car of the Year for the EV6.

I’m not personally convinced by the claimed eco credentials of electric vehicles and believe that you need an ICE and ideally a manual gearbox if you’re a real driving enthusiast. But I digress. Kia and Hyundai have made amazing progress in terms of design and quality in the relatively short time they’ve been in the business.

Up to now, this has been proven by their conventionally powered cars, but with their latest EVS, they’re leading the way. The EV6 and its sister car, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, not only beat the usual suspects for style but also have excellent real-world performance and refinement.

In my opinion, Teslas are bland and have an arrogance about them, the Volkswagen ID range is uber-dull to look at and BMW with its ix and Bugs Bunny-inspired models has gone AWOL in terms of styling.

If EVS are the way forward for the masses, I believe power is shifting to South Korea. The Kia and Hyundai showrooms (or websites) would be the first I would visit – unless I came across a bargain Audi E-tron GT.
