Do your duty

-

Mark Tisshaw stated that “road tax” brings in a certain amount of money per year to the government.

I would like your reporters to be factual and not mislead your readers with lies. There is no such tax as road tax. However, every motor vehicle owner receives a tax demand called vehicle excise duty, based on the vehicle’s official emissions alone.

Continuing to call a tax by a name that is wrong and long defunct only

serves to perpetuate horrible urban myths and fuel bad attitudes from some drivers in debates about more vulnerable road users. They bring up the issue of “but we pay road tax” as if they have somehow more right to the carriageway than a slower or smaller vehicle for the fact that they have to pay when others don’t.

I expect a publication of your status to know this fact and use it properly. Darren Ross
