EVS Giugiaro would design
Since the invention of the wheel, man has always put the horse before the cart. This continued with the invention of the horseless carriage, putting the engine in front of the passenger space. Now, more than 120 years later, most cars are still designed with this layout.
I’ve been really disappointed with the layout and styling of EVS. They all seem to follow the same shape as ICE cars. Designers have made a few of them a little different, such as the BMW i3 and Jaguar I-pace, but they don’t seem to be making the most of the freedom that electric propulsion affords.
I decided to write about this because of the picture of the Ola car in the 30 March news section. This little Indian design shows that EVS can be different and futuristic, looking like a car that Giorgetto Giugiaro would design for today. I’m sure that car buyers would be receptive to the more adventurous designs that EVS deserve. Martin Castle

Excellent Eletre
After the Emira, Lotus has once again nailed it with the Eletre: 10 out of 10! Albeit thanks to the technology and funding of Chinese parent Geely, this is exactly the sort of car that will at last turn Lotus into the international success story it so needs to be.
It’s interesting how Lotus seems to be following the plans that old CEO Dany Bahar wanted for the company [in the early 2010s].
While the purists will say the Eletre moves too far away from the history of Lotus, without models like this the company would never grow or possibly even survive.
If Lotus carries on with its plans, it could become a real Ferrari rival. Keith S

Colin would approve
Colin Chapman was a pragmatist. If he could have sold SUVS in the 1970s to fund Lotus, he would have done, and without shame too.
I have had a good look at the Eletre on Youtube and think it looks great – much better than in the static images. The detailing is superb (‘porous design’ – I love it!).
If it’s built properly and drives well, Lotus will have a big hit on its hands. JMD

Colin wouldn’t approve
Inside and out, the Lotus Eletre could be literally any old SUV. Absolutely nothing about it says Lotus.
Oh, and it’s being made in Wuhan, the home of Covid. Seriously?
That sound you can hear is Colin Chapman spinning in his grave. Martin

Lotus? I’d rather a Kia
The Lotus Eletre really looks like a cross between the Kia EV6 and Lamborghini Urus. Okay, it will be cheaper than the Lambo, but it will be way more expensive than the EV6. The upcoming EV6 GT will be very close to it in power and performance yet I bet will be better built, have a better warranty and be a lot cheaper. Alan Mac
