Toyota Aygo X
On sale May, price £14,805
The Aygo X – which we will be road testing next week – is the first all-new entry into the ailing city car class for three years. Although it now has Suv-inspired styling, it’s almost as compact as before (just 325mm longer and 125mm wider) yet also more spacious inside, thanks to the adoption of a truncated Yaris platform. This is also said to yield less body roll and a better ride. The powertrain remains gratifyingly simple: a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine sending 71bhp to the front axle through a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic. And the interior has been livened up, gaining a 9.0in infotainment touchscreen and brightly coloured accents.
