…and cut?

I read that the current Royal Opera House Bizet’s Carmen production is in the original version – by restoring later cuts, it caused some people to complain that ‘It is too long’. It made me realise that someone at some time had the same opinion and so cut it to its manageable version we usually hear. Might someone take a similar view of Mozart’s operas? Cuts of 30/40 minutes would not detract too much and would make them more accessible to new audiences. Or is this a very philistine view? Norman Lloyd-edwards, Cardiff
