Kings Place sets the dial to snail’s pace
As Kings Place continues to explore all things temporal in its Time Unwrapped series of concerts, one event on 20 April that particularly catches our eye is ‘Slow Pixel’, a multimedia experience performed by 176 snails. Each of the musical molluscs, we learn, will be fitted with a diode and a speaker, and so make intriguing visual patterns and sounds as they move slowly around – presumably, having 176 rather than, say, 175 or 177 snails is of vital importance. On being asked whether the Kings Place canteen will be marking the occasion by knocking up a butter and garlic sauce, our contact at the London venue gives us a stern reply: performers are invited there strictly to appear on stage, and not to be cooked and eaten. Shame.
