I was saddened to hear last year of the death of Annette Céline, daughter of the famous Polish pianist Felicja Blumental and a successful soprano in her own right. Since hearing that she had died, I have been playing her album Cantigas (on the Brana Records label) on repeat. On this wonderful disc of music by Latin American composers, accompanied by pianist Christopher Gould, her version of Henrique’s tonguetwisting Trem do Alagôas is impressive and her performance of Ovale’s Azulão is beautifully hypnotic. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
