Debussy’s stay with Emma Bardac at Eastbourne’s Grand Hotel (where he also completed La Mer) overshadows the hotel’s other musical claim to fame – between 1924 and 1939 the BBC Grand Hotel Orchestra broadcast performances of light music every Sunday night from the hotel’s Great Hall on the BBC programme Grand Hotel.
