THIS MONTH: STAY-AT-HOME HEADPHONES
MID RANGE CHOICE
Denon AH-D7200 £499
Denon’s f lagship pair of over-ear closed-back headphones are beautifully made, combining a soft sheepskin leather headband, real walnut ear cups and pillowy memory foam ear pads covered in faux leather. They’re gorgeous, feel expensive and fit like a glove. This comfort is echoed in the performance of the 50mm, Japanese-made Freeedge speakers, with a richly refined sound that oozes class.
While not as sonically revealing as some premium-priced headphones, the AH-D7200S (above) are wonderful to listen to for long periods and best experienced with a good Scotch and comfy chair. denon.co.uk
BUDGET PRICE CHOICE Sennheiser HD 599 £179
Big, plush and superbly comfortable, these openbacked HD 599 headphones (right) have large ear pads made of super-soft velour. While the retro 1970s-style is an acquired taste, the effortlessly smooth performance with tight, indulgent bass and well-positioned mid-range frequencies will have universal appeal, especially given the surprisingly affordable asking price. I appreciate
£179 is far from pocket change but these headphones offer an affordable way to experience impressive sound quality at home. en-uk.sennheiser.com
