Gordon’s genius
In your brief portrait of Gordon Jacob (On your cover CD, June) you say he was more highly regarded as an orchestrator than as a composer. I was surprised, as I have enjoyed several of his works over the years. I am particularly fond of his Symphony No. 1 and his Quartet for Oboe and Strings. Both works are tuneful, accessible and have many memorable moments. Perhaps you could consider including some of his works in future cover CDS and help to show that Gordon Jacob was a fine composer in his own right? David M Wilkie, Tain
