Faceli for Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre

-

The Royal Opera House has raised the curtain on a three-year £51m improvement of its foyer areas, adding new entrances, terraces and a brand new café, bar and restaurant.

The hope, we’re told, is that people will drop into the venue during the day, grab something to eat or drink and experience some of its planned programme of free events and activities – all the while getting ‘a taste of the remarkable creativity at play here.’ At the heart of its revamp is a totally remodelled Linbury Theatre, resplendent in its American walnut cladding. Designed by architects Stanton Williams, the new-look Linbury will seat up to 406 and will be a fully equipped stage for a new season of original, innovative opera and dance.

The first work to be staged in the newlook Linbury by The Royal Opera will be, in February 2019, Gavin Higgins’s new opera The Monstrous Child based on Francesca Simon’s darkly comic novel for teens.
