Platform 21 for the London Mozart special
Why mark just the one anniversary when you can celebrate two at the same time? To launch their 70th season at the beginning of October, the London Mozart Players decided to bring a little music to London’s St Pancras Station, which itself turned 150 years old the same month. For this notable joint occasion, the LMP invited pianist and conductor Howard Shelley to join them for Mozart’s (who else?) Piano Concerto No. 21 – Shelley was playing the ‘Elton John’ Piano, so-named after the rock legend played it and then donated it to the station two years ago. An appreciative audience gathered for the performance which, in something of a rarity at a British station, ran smoothly and on time.
