Three to look out for
Alan Davey, the controller of BBC Radio 3, picks out three great moments to listen out for in December
Winter Walk
Writer Horatio Clare joins us on Christmas Eve for the centrepiece of our series exploring forests, in an immersive Slow Radio walk through Germany inspired by the concept of ‘the wanderer’. The walk will be accompanied by moments from Schubert’s great song cycle Winterreise and poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. 24 December, 2pm
A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Now in its 100th year, the 2018 service will be music director Stephen Cleobury’s 36th and final with the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge. As ever, it will be broadcast live on Radio 4 on Christmas Eve and replayed on Radio 3 on Christmas Day itself.
25 Dec, 2pm
Classical Fix
Clemency Burton-hill returns for a second series of Classical Fix, in which she curates a personalised playlist for her guests, who then join her to discuss their new classical music discoveries. Guests this season include multi-instrumentalist Marika Hackman and author Dolly Alderton.
