Berlioz 150
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death, the BBC orchestras and choirs are hosting a weekend of live concerts and pre-recorded studio programmes. Expect three days of Berlioz’s operas, orchestral and choral works, as well as discussions about his compositional style. 15-17 February
James Macmillan’s 60th birthday
To kick off his 60th birthday year, James
Macmillan is joining forces with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble with which he has a decades-long partnership. The concert will feature the composer’s heartbreaking choral work Seven Last Words from the Cross alongside Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, his spectacular percussion concerto. Bach’s Mass in B minor
The BBC Symphony Chorus turns 90 this year, and together with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a stellar line-up of soloists and conductor John Butt, will perform Bach’s Mass in B minor for the first time since 1979.
