BBC Sounds is not just made up of radio programmes and podcasts. It also has an entire section dedicated to hour-long audio mixes for you to listen to – each without any interruption.

Radio 3 has put together a ‘Mindful Mix’: works to help you switch off and put your feet up, featuring a wide variety of composers from Hildegard von Bingen to Lü Wencheng. Meanwhile, the three-hour ‘Classical Focus’ mix is packed full of post-classical music by the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Agnes Obel.

There are high-energy mixes (‘Upbeats’) from Essential Classics, too, packed with motivational pieces from Louise Farrenc and Richard Strauss which promise, in the words of BBC Sounds, to ‘galvanise you through life’s critical encounters’.

But if that has you a little confused, the ‘Classical Sunrise’ mix might well be for you. With the final movement of Beethoven’s Eighth and Schubert’s Overture to Rosamunde, you’ll be up and out the door with no trouble…
