The impresario Victor Hochhauser (born 1923) lead the way in bringing Soviet artists to the West, including pianist Sviatoslav Richter and the Bolshoi Ballet. His popular classical concerts at the Royal Albert Hall were a hit, and he also staged opera and ballet with the aim of attracting mass audiences. He was appointed a CBE in 1994.
